The Need

Children across California are waiting for help.

For many families, the need is urgent. A child may struggle to speak clearly, become frustrated when they cannot express what they need, or miss opportunities to connect with others. A parent may be worried that their child is falling behind. A student may struggle to participate in the classroom or read with confidence. A family may not know where to turn.

RiteCare helps children and families move forward.

Your gift to the Little Voices Campaign helps sustain the statewide foundation behind that care.

Communication affects learning.

When a child struggles to communicate, classroom progress can stall.

Communication affects confidence.

Finding the right words builds self-assurance that carries into every part of life.

Communication affects family life.

Connection between a child and the people who love them depends on being understood.

Communication is something most of us take for granted. We pick up the phone to call a friend, order food at a restaurant, read a news article online, or share stories around the dinner table without giving it a second thought. Communication is a fundamental part of our everyday life. It is how we express our ideas, needs, feelings, and interact with the world. For many children, however, communication is a struggle and the impact on their lives can be profound. For children with speech and language disorders, everyday interactions can be frustrating and isolating. Difficulties with communication can affect school performance, social relationships, and basic day-to-day activities. There are two-year-olds who are not yet talking and cannot communicate their basic wants and needs. There are four-year-olds who talk non-stop but cannot be understood by others. There are five-year-olds who come home from school and cannot tell their parents about their day. There are seven-year-olds who are still struggling to sound out simple words instead of reading short books. There are nine-year-olds who are getting teased because they cannot pronounce certain sounds and they are embarrassed to talk. There are parents who are watching their children struggle to communicate and feeling guilty because they cannot afford the high cost of speech, language, and literacy services. These are some of the challenges faced by the families we serve at RiteCare Childhood Language Centers, and these are the challenges we are able to help them overcome. RiteCare Childhood Language Centers provide speech, language, and literacy services at no cost to families in our communities. Our services help children who otherwise might not receive the therapy they need. Many families face obstacles in receiving services, such as long waitlists, the high cost of private therapy, large caseloads, a lack of insurance coverage, and a shortage of Speech-Language Pathologists. RiteCare Centers help fill this critical gap. Our services ensure that children who need support are not left behind because their families cannot afford care or access services elsewhere. We give words to the two-year-olds who are not yet talking, so they can communicate when they are hungry, sick, or simply want to play. We increase speech sound production and intelligibility for the four-year-olds, so they can be understood by their parents, teachers, and friends. We work on language and retelling skills for the five-year-olds, so they can come home from school and talk about their day. We target literacy skills with the seven-year-olds, so their reading is on track with their classmates. We work on speech sounds with the nine-year-olds, so they can pronounce words confidently without the fear of being teased. We give hope to the parents as they watch their children progress and ease their guilt by making them an active part of the therapy process. Beyond the progress with speech, language, and literacy skills, our work also builds confidence and connection. Children who once avoided speaking begin raising their hands in class. They participate in conversations, build friendships, and engage more fully in their learning. Improved communication translates to improved independence, engagement, and the ability to fully participate in the world around them. When children gain these skills, this positively impacts their academic success, emotional well-being, and relationships. At RiteCare Childhood Language Centers, communication is more than a skill. It is a pathway to confidence, opportunity, and connection. By making high-quality speech, language, and literacy services accessible, we help children find their voices and families find hope. Our impact extends beyond the therapy room to strengthen schools, families, and communities. When children are given the tools to communicate, they are set up for success today and for the rest of their lives.
