 CELEBRATES PHILIPPINES INDEPENDENCE DAY

and honors the legacy of

Jose Abad Santos, PGM of the Grand Lodge of the Philippines and former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines.

José Abad Santos was a distinguished Filipino statesman, jurist, and Masonic leader who served as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines from 1941 to 1942. A former Grand Master of Masons in the Philippines, he was widely respected for his integrity, leadership, and unwavering commitment to justice and national sovereignty.

During World War II, Abad Santos chose to remain with the Filipino people rather than evacuate with the government. Captured by Japanese forces, he refused to cooperate with the occupying authorities and remained steadfast in his loyalty to the Philippines. He was executed in 1942, becoming a symbol of courage, patriotism, and moral conviction. His legacy endures as one of the nation’s most revered heroes and a model of principled leadership.

Hon. Adelio Angelito S. Cruz serves as the Consul General of the Republic of the Philippines in Los Angeles, leading one of the country’s largest diplomatic missions abroad. A career diplomat with the Department of Foreign Affairs, he has held key postings in both Manila and overseas, advancing Philippine foreign policy, economic diplomacy, and services to Filipino communities.

In his current role, Consul General Cruz oversees consular services, cultural promotion, and community engagement across Southern California and surrounding regions. He works closely with Filipino American organizations, business leaders, and local institutions to strengthen bilateral ties, support overseas Filipinos, and promote the Philippines’ cultural heritage and economic interests.
